Slasher horror films have very identifiable and conventional locations. One classic slasher horror location is a woods, and within the woods is usually a big tent, cabin or shack where a group of people are based in. An example of this I used was from the film 'The Cabin In The Woods'.

An example of this I used was from the film 'The Cabin In The Woods'.The woods is used in many slasher horror films because it's a place of isolation, when the group of people are submerged in the forest surroundings, it's very hard to escape. The cabin itself works as a target for the evil or wrongdoing things to attack the people inside.
When in a woody environment, a large caravan is conventionally used to make the situation seem as normal as can be, it is made out to look like it's a normal friend or family holiday. This creates suspense as you know something bad will happen to such an ordinary family. Big and tall conifers are traditionally seen in slasher horrors as they're over powering and belittle the victims even further.

This is because the unknown is always expected under the water. The victims are behaving as any ordinary group of friends would on a holiday or trip away as they're splashing around and having fun in the lake. However, later on in the film, the evil beings start coming out of the water to kill them, which makes the fact that they were ever in the water extremely uncomfortable.
Another kind of conventional location in a slasher horror is a normal family home, usually on a large open street. An example of this is from the film 'The Strangers'. A couple are having a romantic night in with each other and they get attacked by three killers, who torture them through the night. They live in a large cottage style house on an open road.
