Typography Practical Task
Inspiration
To make my title I first looked at possible inspiration from other psychological slasher films. The first film I looked at was Candyman 1992 because the font they used was very eye catching and bold and gave me the idea to use text with a similar font. This particular font style seemed to be a very popular choice within psychological slasher films with other examples including I Can See You 2008 and Orphan 2009.
My Own Development
I decided that because our film opening is largely related to fire, some sort of fire should be in-cooperated into our title. I then went back to my inspiration research and discovered that many psychological thrillers surround the title with a background that has a strong relation to the story line. To do this, I took a photo of fire off the internet and inserted it into Photoshop where I removed the background and slightly blurred the photo to make it more intriguing. The removal of the background and the slight blur made it much easier to view and be able to read the title Incinerate that I placed on top.
I then looked on Dafont.com where I searched for a font type similar to the ones I found when looking for my inspiration. The one I chose was called 'True Lies' because it fit well with the fire background and conformed to the other film titles. I then used this font to spell out the name of our film opening Incinerate and remove the background before inserting it on top of the fire and receiving the final product which is shown below.
Evaluation
When we come to completing our real title for our film opening we expect the fire behind the text to be moving like a real fire and we intend to do this by filming a shot film clip of a fire created by ourselves to then edit and make into our title clip. With my own creation I like the way the black colour of the font works well with the orange of the fire because the word is still clearly visible and is not cut out by the background image. Also the font type I used can easily be read and creates a bold title in front of the fire. If I was to do this task again I would of used my own fire photo to give the title better quality and to make it more original and unique to our group.
