Deconstruction of Camera angles in Slasher Horrors
Camera angles are a very important aspect of any film because it is used to show the audience what is going on, the location and the characters ext. Therefore it is important to use the correct camera angles to represent what is being shown in that particular scene. Each camera angle as a connotation associated with it and I will be mentioning a few of these below which are particularly common in Slasher Horrors.
The most common camera angle found in Slasher Horror film is a Close-up. This is because it allows the audience to see the detailed gore and blood that is commonly found in Slasher Horrors. This is essential because this element of Slasher Horrors is the most important because it creates the atmosphere and the right tension that they need to have.
Another common camera angle used in Slasher Horrors are long shots. These are commonly used to show the killer lurking in the distance, sometimes even stalking or following their victims from within the shadows. This creates a large amount of suspense for the audience because they are able to see the killer but the victim cannot which places the viewer in a higher position of authority because they know more.
Another camera angle used is an Extreme Long Shot showing the surrounding location whether it being the place where the killer is based or the location where the victim is stranded or being stalked at. This is also a very important shot in Slasher Horrors because it emphasises the tension and suspense and also the location can be linked to the death and can give clues to the audience about how the victim may be killed.
