Preliminary Editing Evaluation

Preliminary Editing Evaluation

When we began the editing process, we inserted all of our clips into FinalCut Pro. This allowed us to put the clips into the order we decided when drawing our storyboard after selecting the correct ones.

After putting them in the correct order, we decided to embed the mission impossible soundtrack into the video as a special effect. Before doing this we had to remove all other sounds from the clips apart from the dialogue scenes to avoid the soundtrack being overwritten. This was done through a process of detaching the sound from the clip and then manually deleting it. This made the video more exciting to watch for the audience.

Then using FinalCut we edited the door opening shots to create a state of match on action. This needed to be done correctly to ensure the smooth transition between the shots to make it look like they were all filmed at the same time using separate cameras.

The final piece of editing we needed to do in our short video was add the title of 'Revenge is a dish.. Best served... ORANGE!' The title involved three separate screens which gradually revealed the title which created tension and suspense before the video began. On top of the title we added intense sound clips which dramatized the title and made it seem more bold which was quite effective.

Evaluation
There was two main issues when editing our preliminary task with the first being the soundtrack we intended to use. We found it very difficult to match the soundtrack up to the specific clip in FinalCut Pro because the soundtrack was longer then the clip. We decided to cut the clip but then we had to make the decision of what section of the soundtrack to use. In the end we decided to use the beginning part and after cutting it to the correct length we inserted it into the correct place in our video. The second issue was the match on action because it was very complex and delicate to edit to make sure that all the corresponding clips flowed well one after the other. It took many attempts to edit them together but at the end of it they all flowed smoothly and it looked very realistic. I think that the title that was used in our short clip was very effective and the soundtrack behind it made it much more dramatic which foreshadowed our storyline.
