Editing- Preliminary Deconstruction

Editing preliminary task

When editing, we needed to put each of our previously shot clips in order on FinalCutPro which is a video editing software. Once all the clips were in a desirable order, we started cutting, cropping, adding in music and adding a title. When adding a title, we wanted it to be bold, eye-catching and dramatic as we feels that this complimented our video nicely. We chose to do white, bold text that we made very large against a black background which a shadow underneath the text. The font was serif. We made the title of the video come up in order, starting with ‘Revenge…’, then ‘Is a dish…’, next, ‘Best served’ and lastly the word ‘ORANGE’ in big orange serif text. This built up tension as the audience were made to wait for each part of the title.

To make the tension in the opening title even tenser, we added sound effects that corresponded with each section of the title popping up. The sound effects were the sound of a beating drum that was made to sound like a beating heart. Adding in sound effects makes the final video more professional looking in general, and make the video look finalised and complete. To add in the sound effects, we had to save the sound onto our documents in the ‘Music’ section, click onto the music note icon on FinalCutPro and scroll down to the ‘music’ tab. There will be the file you saved, then just drag that file onto the part where the editing line up is, under the video clip you’d like. I found this very straight forward and found no problems when doing it. If I could improve on the sound effects, I would change the ending of the sound so that it fades out instead of just a cut. This is more professional looking.

In the scene where the two girls are acting as spies breaking in to the important and private files, we thought it would be appropriate to add it music from ‘Mission Impossible’ as this would encourage the audience to believe they were spies. We found the music clip from You Tube and saved the music from that clip into the ‘Music’ file in our documents. We then inserted the clip of music into our video so that it matched up with the spy scene. This was very effective, especially as it corresponded well with the actions they were doing in the clip. To improve this, I would’ve faded the music out at the end instead of it cutting off, as this shows more techniques and again, makes he video look more professional in general.

Overall, I found the editing stage very easy, there were no problems when editing our preliminary videos. If I could go back and edit it again, I would've spent more time on the music clips and I would've put different filters over some of the shots.
