Preliminary Task, Editing Deconstruction

Preliminary Editing:
For the editing of our preliminary video we used 'Final Cut Pro'. We used this to add non diegetic sound, edit the clips together and cut out any unnecessary scenes or sounds.

Inserting the clips:
The first step was importing the videos that we had filmed on the camera onto Final Cut Pro, via the cameras SD card. We then watched through the videos and chose the best out of the ones we had filmed and dragged them down so that they were all together in the correct order. After this we cut each clip down to where we deemed appropriate to ensure no extra unwanted footage was left. We also checked to see if any extra sound that was not needed had been picked up and cut it out.

Inserting Non-Diegetic Sound:

In the scene where two of the characters are on their 'mission' to find out what their victims was allergic to, non diegetic sound of the theme tune to mission impossible was used. This was to create suspense and to make it clear to the audience to what exactly was happening, expressing how the characters were 'on a mission'. To do this we downloaded the theme song off youtube, and copied it onto the youtube convertor. We then added it on to our video to the position we deemed suitable.

We also added in sound clips for the title screen to make it more dramatic and to give the audience a sense to what type of video they are about to watch. It creates tension of the events that are soon to come.

Match on action:

Match on action is an editing technique in which one shot cuts to another showing the action of the characters in the scene. This was done to show the audience what the characters were doing in a continual way, it allows a step by step visual of the current situation.

Editing the diegetic sound:
We also edited the diegetic sounds which were recorded by the camera. This included editing out some sound since it was not appropriate or needed in some scenes. The software on Final Cut Pro allowed us to increase the volume of the diegetic sound we did need, allowing the dialogue and other sounds to be much clearer and easier to understand/hear. To delete unwanted sounds the volume could be turned completely down or could be deleted entirely from the clip. This is done to make the video more professional since leaving in unwanted sound confuses the scene, and makes it a lot messier.

Inserting/editing the title screen:
We added a title screen to our video, 'Revenge is a dish best served orange'. We decided to split it up into three parts for dramatic effect.  The way the title was revealed one by one along with the music may also have added tension. We decided to make the word orange, orange, to foreshadow events that are to come (the victim being allergic to oranges and having them thrown at her by the other characters). We also used a black background to make the title to seem bolder and stand out more.
