Preliminary - Editing

To edit the final video, including putting each scene in order and cutting out mistakes or unnecessary parts, we used Final Cut Pro on the Mac computers. This is a more professional means for editing movies and films and also offers more features and effects, which would make the video more interesting.

Adding and Cropping the Clips -

Firstly, we imported the video clips from the camera SD Card into the Final Cut Pro software, where we then put them into sequence order according to the storyboard in the previous section. Using the mouse for the dragging tool, or alternatively using the Blade tool, we then cut each clip down to the exact point and duration required; this was because sometimes the video would play longer than necessary, thus including extra footage and/or dialogue that was not needed.

Adding and Editing the Title -

For the next step, we then added the title sequence desired to fit in with the genre of our movie. We chose the dramatic effect, which split the title itself up into 3 sections; this was to build up suspense at the beginning of the movie and to also create a sense of enigma. In the top right hand corner of the screenshot below shows the text editing sub-section which allowed us to alter the text font, size and colour to best suit the genre of the video clip.

Editing the Diegetic Sound -

For the next step, we edited the diegetic sounds recorded by the camera; for some scenes, we did not need any diegetic sounds, such as dialogue and thus we were able to remove it. Alternatively, for the dialogue scenes, this particular software enabled us to enhance the audio volume to make the speech louder and this easier to understand. To do this, in terms of audio enhancement, as indicated by the yellow bar on the video clip screenshot below, we dragged the volume up to the maximum capacity using the mouse. To delete sounds entirely, however, using the right click button on the mouse, we selected detach sound and then deleted the separate clip; it is also possible to turn the volume down to zero instead, however, this method is less professional.

Adding Non-Diegetic Sound -

For the scene whereby the two bullies are sneaking along the corridor to find the office, we added the Mission Impossible theme tune music in order to create suspense. Similarly to adding video clips, we added the sound clip, one imported, using the Music button on the right hand side of the screen as indicated below. As we did so for the video clips also, we could change the position of the audio to play at the point we desired and could additionally, cut the clip to the point the audio should stop. This lead to an overall professional looking video.

Exporting and Uploading the Video to YouTube -

Once the editing of the video was complete to the standard necessary, we exported the video to YouTube using the link Below. On the right hand side of the screen shot shows the drop down menu in which the YouTube link was found. From here, we uploaded the video following the step by step instructions and chose a suitable thumbnail and title.

Evaluation

As mentioned in the Planning section, the only downfall I feel that we had was that during filming and thus editing, we needed a few extra shots and camera angles as to what was mentioned on the storyboard; however, the video as a whole was successful and adhered to the requirements set.
