Slasher film, Locations:

   Location:

For a possible location of a slasher horror film opening, I visited an abandoned building in Leybourne. I chose this location due to the fact it conforms to common conventions of slasher movies, since it is at the top of a field with no one near by, therefore being a good place for the killers lare since no one would find it or the victims located there. It also has numerous graffiti and symbols on the walls further greatening conformity, and giving it a fairly eerie; ominous feel.

This image shows graffiti with the words '666 we all die'. 666 is considered to be the number of the devil. Giving the building a fairly scary feel.

The use of a pentagram which is a sign of witch craft, and the satanic cross with the words 'hail satan' would be good in a horror/slasher as the mise en scene since it deepens the sense of death and that fact that it is not a pleasant situation.

The building is fairly dirty, and uncared for and also has a very dark and gloomy feel. It could also foreshadow events that are to come since it could represent the killers lack of care towards the victims lives.

The door into the building has been ripped from its hinges, it allows you to see the darkness inside as you enter it, which creates quite an ominous atmosphere.

The roof and right hand side of the building have quite large holes in them, one leading into a woodland area which further  creates a somewhat sinister environment.

Evaluation:

  • Overall I think that this location is suitable for the genre of film  we have chosen.
  • Since it conforms to common conventions of a location in a horror/slasher.
  • Firstly it is isolated and in a location which is fairly hard to get to and find.
  • It is also damaged and is abandoned which is alike many locations/villains lare in horror films.
  • The graffiti also adds to the conformity, since it has numerous satanic symbols and writings, adding to the ominous feel of the environment.
