Analysis of Se7en

Analysis of Se7en credits

Typography-

  • I think that the white writing in front of a black background creates a simple yet eerie and mysterious effect. It makes the name and title stand out.
  •  The font is serif, and each letter is slightly elongated in length, which resembles the font 'Chiller'.
  • The way to writing is edited to flicker and be choppy also creates an almost paranormal or supernatural effect, as if to imply spirits or ghosts.

Editing-

  • There are various extreme close up shots and close up shots, showing the cutting out of religious symbols, holding blades in his hands to remove finger prints from potential murders and sewing the edges of religious books. These shots conform to common conventions of psychological horrors, as they all include religious symbols or some kind.
  • All of the shots have a dimming filter over to drain out any colour, this creates a gloomy and 'ill' looking effect, which compliments the mood of the film.
  • All of the images show some kind of murder or death scene, and all of the deaths seem to have been photographed and recorded in a big book.
  • Some of the shots have been edited so that two of the same thing is shown but one version is less translucent than the other. This creates a distorted effect, which compliments the idea of a psychological horror, as it makes the audience feel as though their vision is distorted.
