Individual Production Company - Slash Productions

To create my individual production company, I first had to choose a genre to relate it too. This led me to choose Slasher horror as my genre. I then had to discuss with my group and choose a name that would be appropriate and after much collaboration we settled on 'Slash Productions'. The name is highly relatable to the genre as the word slash indicates blood and gore inflicted upon a person with the use of a knife or sharp object. This is therefore appropriate for Slasher as they commonly involve excessive amounts of blood.

After this I decided to use a simple but effective house hold item to create my production company video. To do this I filled up a kettle and placed it on the hob to boil. I then recorded from this moment until when it because to steam and make a loud whistling noise. I did not use a tripod because I believe a hand held camera would be more effective and make it more realistic.

I then had to begin to edit my small clip. To do this I used Final Cut Pro as this is a easy but professional way to edit videos to a good standard. I inserted the clip into the programme and used the cutting tool to reduce it to the correct time span and at the correct part in the clip. I choose the very ending where the kettle had boiled and steam was pouring from the opening and the noise was at its loudest. After doing this I used a black and white effect over the top of the clip to make it seem more unique and individual. The colours black and white would also be more relevant colours to the genre in comparison to the original lime green colour.

I then had to decide what I would do with the sound that overlapped my clip. I was faced with two decisions, the first was to strip the original clip of all of its sound and find a pre-made sound clip to insert in. Or the second was to use my original sound just increase the volume so it was more mysterious and tense. I finally decided to use my own sound as the sound fitted perfectly with the clip and avoided using a sound clip that someone else was intending to use making my production company even more unique.

Evaluation

I believe that to improve my Production Company I would need to improve the name as 'slash' could be associated with going to the bathroom which would be inappropriate for my genre. Another thing I would slightly alter would be the use of the camera to concentrate on the smoke more. This could be done by me putting the surroundings out of focus in order to only focus on the kettle and steam towards the end. Finally the title is quite boring and doesn't move throughout the whole sequence. This therefore doesn't create any effect and fails to give any hints to the audience about what genre the film will be.
