Location- gate and area under bridge
When on a trip to a cinema in Rochester, I came across this empty and creepy looking gated area.
The pictures were taken at 20.30 so it was pitch black, I think this added to the effect of the images and set the atmosphere nicely.
The first picture is one of my favourites as I used the flash on my phone, this showed all of the pattern in the wired gate, you can also see all of the shrubbery and weeds growing, which shows it's an old, abandoned and uncared for area. The building in the far background gives a sense of how empty the area is, and if someone was to shout for help, they certainly wouldn't be heard.
This image shows the pure blackness and eeriness of the scene. The metal bars that were once a small structure have broken off, which again makes the scene look abandoned and uncared for. The large rip in the wire gate shows that someone or something may have attempted to get in there before, or indeed tried to escape. This adds to the creepy atmosphere that the scene projects.
This picture shows the broken gate in the corner, which portrays a sense of the unknown, it leaves the viewer wondering what happened before to caused the gate to brake. The shadowing on the bridge makes the scene look over powering and isolating. It makes the viewer feel as though if they were to shout, it would echo and the only person that could hear them would be themselves. The extremely long bridges also make the scene look never ending and as if there's no escape out of the place.
This kind of location would suit the conventions of a horror, more specifically a slasher or psychological. This is because of the 'creepy' atmosphere, the sense of isolation and no escape and the run down and uncared for feel of the scene.
