Practical Task - Serial Killer Victims Board

Practical Task - Serial Killer Victims Board

To begin with I went to the range to pick up the supplies I needed to complete my practical task. This included a large black board, masking tape, newspapers, pins and some string. I came up with the idea to create a victims board as a prop because we could use it when filming and it will help the audience to create links between each of the deaths shown.

The first step I took into creating my victim board was taking the glossed black sheet and using a pair of scissors to scratch the entire surface to make it look older and more rugged. Then, using masking tape, I covered each of the four corners and sides but not allowing them to be connected so they look as if they have been there fore some time and have begun to ware away.

I then took a few group photographs from my photo album and using a lighter and the kitchen sink i began to burn the 6 images from each corner to foreshadow the plot line that the killer will kill his victims by burning them. After leaving them to cool down I used the sharp end of the scissors again to scratch out the faces and eyes of the victims to give the idea that they are already dead.

I took three newspapers and began looking through them in search for words that would relate to our genre and storyline. When I found them, I cut them out and began placing them on different parts of the victim board. The words included 'murdered', 'serial killer' and many others across the board to emphasise the horror aspect of the film and that the girls would be brutally killed.

Finally I began to stick down the photos and newspaper clippings using masking tape and then using pins I connected the words to the photos using pieces of string which made it seem more mysterious like there is a journey and therefore a link between each death which the audience have yet to discover.

Evaluation
I was really happy with the end result of my Serial Killer Victim Board. If I was to do it again i would take more time and effort when burning the photos to ensure that the whole photo looks as if it has been burnt instead of just the edges because this seems a bit unrealistic. Also I will be adding more string to increase the links and connections made between each aspect of the board. I was also considering news articles and maps and then marking them with red pen to make it look like the killer always knows what his next move is. I really like the detailed choice of words from the newspaper as I think they all relate well to the storyline.
