Typography Slasher/horrors:

Typography:

I have decided to deconstruct different slasher/horrors typography so i can look for inspiration for not only the name of our film opening but the style of the title it will be presented in.

Came out on the 20th of February, 2014. The title of this appears to be written in a dark blood like colour, with the effect that it has been smudged. Emphasising how it is meant to represent blood, this foreshadows events to come within the film and also acts as a visual representation at the very beginning to the genre of the film. The way it is written in a type writer font is also very effective and how it stands out amongst the light background, once again adding emphasis to the title.

The title for Saw uses very dark colours, which seem to be faded. The A also appears to have dark blood stains on it, acting as a representation of events in the film. The use of the two dead, hurt fingers to show it is the second film in the series again adds to this and foreshadows the death and darkness to come within the movie.  The use of using a murder weapon as the title is also very effective.

The title of this film also foreshadows events to come since 'strangers' invade their home. The use of the light on each letters also looks effective, a possible representation of the killers disconnect from reality.

Evaluation:

  • Overall the titles used fit the genre and are a good representation of the films.
  • They also look very effective, allowing for subtle signs of foreshadowing.
