In our film opening, the killer murders people by burning them. I thought that as that is the killers 'trait', the killer wouldn't just use an ordinary shop bought match box with no personalisation. I thought that to make the match box look more used and personal to the killer, i would rough it up a bit and make it look dirty. I also burnt some of the matches and put them back in the box so that it doesn't look like a freshly shop bought box.
I decided to buy the smaller boxes as they would look better when scattered around the killer's lair.
The next thing I decided to do was cover some of the match box in thick, black tape. I thought this would give the effect of the match box looking more personalised and it also corresponds with some of the black tape that are used to hold up the posters of other victims in the lair of the killer.

Then I decided to light and burn some of the matches in the box to make the box look well used and quite old, which gives the effect that the killer has been murdering people for a long time. When burning some of the matches I decided to burn the cardboard match box as again, this look more used and shows the only purpose the killer has the match box for.

The last stage of making the match box look more used and personalised was to make it look dirty, as the lair itself is dirty and if the match box was clean it wouldn't look right at all. To do this I used dark and pigmented eye shadow colours and smeared them round the box. This resembled a dirty and used box well and I think the final product is very effective.
Evaluation-
Having made the match-box and using it in the film opening, I feel that it should've been a much bigger size. This would've given the match box much more importance in the story line and could have possibly increasing the understanding of the film opening for the viewers. However, I think that the match box came out well and the scruffiness of it made it look realistically 'over-used' by the murderer.
