Editing: Burns

Editing (practical task) Burns:

The beginning of our opening scene includes flashes of fire, burns and static images to portray a camera. These are to foreshadow future events in our scene. I and another person in my group used makeup to create the illusion that the victims arm was burnt, we used dark colours such as reds and blacks onto of liquid latex in order to do this and create the effect of burnt skin.

I then inserted the image into the editing software and decided to edit it to make it look more burnt and have similar colours to the fire (red and oranges) to make it fit into the scene better. It also made it look darker and harsher, making it look more suitable. The filter we chose that created this effect was 'Film Noir' since after trying every other filter we decided that it looked the best for the look we were going for.

I added the effect to our image since before i believed it did not look dark enough or realistic enough. (Shown below)

The Image then did not fit in exactly to the screen, so i zoomed it in to the desired percentage to ensure that it fitted correctly, i also tilted it slightly to make sure it was all in frame.

Evaluation:

  • Overall the burns makeup proved to be affective, adding a sense of gore to our production giving it the slasher horror feel.
  • It also worked well with the flames due to the orange/red tints, as well as symbol of blood, death and pain.
  • The filter allowed for the burn to look more realistic and fit in better with our scene.
