Whilst editing our 2 minute film opening, I decided to insert a sound effect of a match being lit to section 1 minute 19 seconds. By adding this short sound effect of the match being lit by the main character, it adds to the moving image of it happening to create a sense of urgency. When the match is lit, the petrol reacts with it instantly. This is shown through the immediate shot after that of the blazing fire, which is put with a roaring fire sound effect.
To insert this sound effect, I clicked on the music note symbol in the bottom right hand corner where all of the effects buttons are in a row.Next, I selected the sound effects from Final Cut Pro and scrolled down until I found the appropriate sound effect for lighting a match or a match striking. I then dragged it into the section where it would exactly line up with the moving image and cut the sound clip to an appropriate size.
Overall I don't think the sound effect particularly has much significance but makes a good little detail within the film opening that gives that bit more drama. The fact it is directly in front of the immediate fire blazing scene after gives it more meaning and when paired together, fits very nicely.
