The psychological horror or thriller film genre usually has quite a consistent typography style. I have chosen two psychological horror film's titles to analyse and will point out some of the common trends amongst these titles.
The first film title I decided to analyse was from the film 'Dead silence'. The film is about puppets alms it coming to life and horrifying the characters throughout the film. I think that the title itself has a very ghostly effect as it looks jittery and the colour of white suggests something like a spirit. The words are very spaced out, are thin and narrow and are in serif capital letters.
The white colour against the black background creates some eeriness and mystery.
The title looks as though it should belong to the supernatural genre, however the title also creates a sense of mystery and the unknown. This is because the title isn't telling the audience much about the film. There are no blood splatters or effects to go over the top of it like you would find in a slasher horror genre.

The second film title I will analyse is 'Sinister'. The film is about a family moving into a new house and encountering lots of horrifying hauntings throughout the story. This film title has a similar effect as the previous one. This is because a lot of the psychological horror films share the typography style and have it in common.
Sinister's title is black serif text against a white background, the letters are all in capital letters and are also quite spread out. Instead of a jittery and ghost-like effect, this title has a shadowed or mirrored effect underneath it, which does also create a sense of mystery and creates an eerie atmosphere. The effect also makes the text look like it's old and disintegrating or slowly fading away, which also might make the audience think what has happened already if it's been there for so long.
Evaluation-
Overall I have learnt that films with a psychological horror subgenre all share a similar style and convention when it comes to typography. To gain a further insight into the psychological horror subgenre, I should use more examples and analyse the typography styles from them. Psychological horror films tend to play with the mind and keep the audience on their toes when it comes to having to think about the whole story line, in my opinion the typography style reflects that as it creates a sense of mystery and eeriness.
