Costume Deconstruction:

Costume Deconstruction:

I have decided to look at the different types of costumes used within horror films, as inspiration for our film opening.

In 'Friday The 13th' Jasons costume is very worn down and dirty. This allows the audience to have a visual representation of the killer, how he lacks any care towards others wellbeing as well as his own since he does not take any care of himself. It also allows the killer to be singled out since along with the bast the look is very effective and out of the norm.

In 'A Nightmare On Elm Street' Freddie Krugars main feature of his costume is his well known red and black striped jumper. It has been worn down/burnt as a visual representation of the fire he was in. Our killer burns her victims, therefore this idea would be used with some of our costumes. To make it look more realistic as if the killer has been burnt. The use of the colour red could also represent blood, since the death scenes are very bloody and violent.
Michael Myers from 'Halloween'. His costume is an all in one black/dark coloured jumpsuit. Similar to a prison or workman's outfit. The use of the dark colour allows to show the darkness of the killer, we could use a dark colour scheme for our killer since it looks effective and scarier then if the killer was wearing very light/bright colours.

Evaluation:

  • Overall the costumes are appropriate for the genre, using fairly dark colours.
  • They are good inspiration since they have shown how to rip/burn the clothes will look effective swell as the different possible colour schemes i could use.
